How we started

Choices first opened in 1999 with a weekly drop-in session for those in Islington with crisis pregnancies. It was established by a small group of people from local Churches who wished to make a constructive response to high abortion and teenage pregnancy rates in Islington. We are an independent charity staffed by trained volunteers and our ethos is to show care, compassion and respect by providing a place where women can discuss all their options in an unpressurised way and receive accurate information which enables them to make their own informed decisions.

Our Vision

To ensure that people in Islington know there is a safe and caring place where they can receive help, support and advice about any current or previous pregnancy which causes emotional distress. In order to avoid the dilemmas of an unplanned pregnancy we would like all teenagers in Islington schools to have the opportunity to learn about sex in the context of relationship values and self esteem.

Our Aims

1. To contribute to the reduction of distress for women in Islington facing a crisis pregnancy and facilitate informed decision making in an unpressurised and non-judgmental manner.
2. To facilitate resolution for local women and men troubled by a past abortion.
3. To empower local teenagers to make healthy choices with regard to sex and relationships and thereby reduce teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted infection rates in Islington.
